Pesquera de Duero has an important cultural heritage, such as the Church of San Juan Bautista, the Hermitage of Cristo del Humilladero or the Hermitage of the Virgen de Rubialejos, the latter has a special connection with Bodegas Federico, since its silhouette is a of the identifying marks of our wine labels.
The Hermitage of Our Lady of Rubialejos, patron saint of Pesquera de Duero, is located one and a half kilometres from this town, surrounded by vineyards and accessed by a path flanked by crosses that form a legendary Via Crucis. Made of masonry and stone, this baroque jewel has a magnificent altarpiece presided over by the Virgin and has a floor plan in the shape of a Latin cross and a beautiful dome with a lantern crowning its transept.
Every September 7, the day of the main festival, the fishermen They celebrate a pilgrimage in which they take Our Lady of Rubialejos to the Church of San Juan Bautista. On this date they also celebrate the “Pinchito”, in which the wineries donate wine that is enjoyed in the main square along with the pinchos that the different groups are created.
The Church of San Juan Bautista, built between the 16th and 17th centuries, has a single nave, with a Baroque altarpiece presided over by the monumental sculpture of San Juan Bautista and its imposing walnut organ.
The Hermitage of Cristo del Humilladero It has a relief of the descent on its front and a Christ by Gregorio Fernández inside.
To finish off this route of the cultural heritage of Pesquera de Duero, there is a church in the wine cellars district dedicated to San Pedro, which stands on the Duero River. Perhaps the apostle fisherman has something to do with the meaning of the town’s name “limited space for fishing”. This church has its own brotherhood and pilgrimage.
